Memphis, Tenn.- Kim Marks Malone, a University of Memphis professor in the department of Journalism and Strategic Media, won the Top Honor last Thursday at the PRSA Vox Awards.

The Vox Awards hosted by Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is an annual affair honoring the best of PR professionals in the Memphis area. Fellow PRSA chapters in other cities decide on the award winners.

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), a UofM student organization, brought 16 students to the event for a networking opportunity with professionals and to support Marks Malone on her surprise win.

According to Marks Malone, she was grateful to receive the award and be honored in this way.

"Being recognized for my efforts locally in the chapter while also representing the Memphis chapter as the Southeast District Chair this year is amazing," said Marks Malone. "I feel so appreciated and supported by my friends and colleagues on the board and in the chapter."

Marks Malone is the University of Memphis faculty advisor for the PRSSA chapter. In her role, she guides the chapter to success and helps students enrich their education and launch their careers in communications.

Moreover, Marks Malone is an associate professor in the Journalism and Strategic Media department at the University of Memphis. She oversees the Public Relations major for undergraduates and runs the department's online program. She also serves as a faculty advisor for the department's student-operated PR firm: Meeman 901 Strategies.

Having worked in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, Marks Malone uses her professional experience in the classroom, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses. Marks Malone is an accredited public relations professional, a member of the PRSA College of Fellows, serves on the executive board of the Memphis PRSA Chapter, and is the 2022 Chair of the PRSA Southeast District.

This year's Vox Awards were hosted at Old Dominick's Distillery in downtown Memphis. The Memphis public relations community was celebrated by over 200 professionals and students in attendance.
